This must be the most majestic herbaceous plant which is hardy in this country. With leaves that can grow to 6 foot across, supported on stout, prickly stalks up to 8 foot long, this plant resembles a giant rhubarb! Bears thousands of minute reddish flowers on club-shaped spikes up to 6 foot tall. A fantastic architectural plant which is particularly happy in moist ground.

GROWING GUIDE

Sowing Instructions: Sow at any time of year. Sow thinly at a depth of 1.5mm in pots or trays of moist seed compost. Place in a propagator or seal in a polythene bag and maintain a temperature of 25-27C with good humidity. Germination can be erratic and slow and can take up to 60 days. Keep the seed compost very moist, but never saturated at all times and the temperature high.

Growing Instructions: When seedlings are large enough to handle, pot up individually into 7.5cm pots and grow on in a greenhouse or coldframe, overwintering frost-free as necessary. When well established, plant out in spring when all risk of frost has passed, 90cm apart in moist, loamy soil and part shade.

Due to phytosanitary regulations we are unable to send seeds outside the UK.  If a mail forwarding service in the UK is used to send your order abroad, please be aware that we will not take responsibility for orders confiscated by customs.

          
 

If an order is returned to us as undelivered by the postal service, we will refund the cost of the products purchased, not the delivery charge. When a service other than standard delivery is used, we will also deduct this from the refund (eg. signed for, special delivery or courier charges).  It is the customer's responsibility to ensure the delivery address on the order is correct.
