Supermodel and Project Runway host Heidi Klum has spoken out about the sexual harassment and assault allegations against Harvey Weinstein, who served as an executive producer on the reality TV series since its second season. His production credit has since been removed from the series, as well as the rest of the The Weinstein Company’s TV shows.
“I truly admire these brave women who are coming forward to share their stories because change cannot come unless there is a dialogue and people are held accountable,” said Klum in a statement to People on Thursday. “I wish I could say that the horrible stories I read about Harvey Weinstein are a rare occurrence in our society, but that is simply not the case. We would be naive to think that this behavior only happens in Hollywood.”
She added, “This is one example of the more pervasive problem of the mistreatment of women around the world. I think it would be hard to find a woman — myself included — who have not had an experience where they have felt intimidated or threatened by a man using his power, position or his physical stature.”
Weinstein’s wife, Marchesa co-founder and designer Georgina Chapman, has previously appeared as a guest judge on the show. On Tuesday, she revealed that she is leaving her husband. “My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered tremendous pain because of these unforgivable actions,” she wrote in a statement. “I have chosen to leave my husband. Caring for my young children is my first priority and I ask the media for privacy at this time.” In response, Weinstein told Page Six that he is “devastated” by Chapman’s decision.
Chapman, whose fashion line has already begun to feel the negative repercussions of her husband’s alleged actions, has already filmed appearances as a guest judge in upcoming episodes of Project Runway All Stars, according to People. An airdate for those episodes has not yet been confirmed.
Klum joins a growing number of Hollywood power players who have come forward to condemn Weinstein, including Jessica Chastain, Meryl Streep, Lin Manuel-Miranda and Mark Ruffalo. In the wake of the New York Times exposé, which uncovered decades of alleged harassment by the mogul, a number of actresses have shared their own disturbing encounters with Weinstein, including Angelina Jolie, Gywneth Paltrow, Kate Beckinsale and Cara Delevingne.
