I’ll be completely honest, I have no love for current Harley-Davidson models. The company feels a lot like Ferrari where they make most of their money on t-shirts and swag, and do little to make the actual product better.

What I do love though are the original bikes. There’s just something about those early motorcycles that makes me go absolutely gaga, and not the Lady Gaga kind.

What we have here is a 1928 Harley-Davidson JDH ‘Two Cam’ board track racer. It was Harley’s first street legal race bike, and was one of the fastest motorcycles in the world at the time. And it’s not hard to see how the company achieved that.

Using a 1200cc V-twin with a redline of 5,000 rpm and lightweight bodywork, the motorcycle could achieve anywhere between 85 and 100 miles per hour. Just to put that in perspective, the Honda I have right now needs a hill and a long straight to do the ton.

Right now, this pristine vintage Harley-Davidson is getting ready to head to auction at the Lonati Collection of American Motorcycles by Bonhams in England. The price estimate is anywhere between $35,000 to $50,000, and if I had the cash, I’d buy it in a heartbeat.
