The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind gets gorgeous Unreal Engine 5 remake

One The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind fan is working on a gorgeous Unreal Engine 5 remake of the classic Bethesda release.

It has been many years since The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind was released but it hasn’t stopped fans from reminiscing on what a memorable experience it was. Although it is doubtful that we will receive an official Morrowind remake any time soon, some creators are imagining what it could look like in the modern age.

First released in 2002, The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind was an open-world action RPG from Bethesda and the third instalment in The Elder Scrolls series. Since then, fans of the series have received Oblivion in 2006, Skyrim in 2011 and The Elder Scrolls Online in 2014. However, fans are still holding out hope for a remake of Morrowmind as it was many players' first experience with the franchise.

With Bethesda busy providing post-launch support to Starfield, the Elder Scrolls series has taken a bit of a back seat with Elder Scrolls VI still stuck in development. So fans of Morrowind will have to make do with fan-made content, including this trailer which shows what the town of Seyda Need could look like using Unreal Engine 5.

This project was undertaken by YouTuber Mica Olsson who shared a clip of a modern day reimagining of Morrowind. The trailer is simple with just scenic shots of some of the well-known areas of the village with the familiar and nostalgic music playing in the background. The short but effective trailer was quick to garner attention.

“It's incredible how just a couple of sounds can evoke so many feelings and memories from a bygone era,” read one comment. Another is planning for immortality by saying: “At this point, I'm extending my lifespan to wait to experience the most realistic remake of Morrowind possible”.

If a trailer isn’t enough for you, you can also check out the Skywind mod which completely converts The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim into Morrowind. “So immensely excited to finally acquire Skywind. Simply do not care how long it takes - the prospect of experiencing Morrowind through the Creation Engine is something I continue to look forward to,” one fan wrote about the mod.
