For The Second Time This Year, Lil Uzi Vert Goes 4x Platinum

This article is more than 6 years old.

Lil Uzi Vert has proven himself one of the most successful rap artists of 2017, at least by one particular metric.

This week, the Recording Industry Association of America awarded the Philadelphia rapper's hit single "XO Tour Llif3" quadruple-platinum status, signifying four million in sales and sales equivalent units.

Even more impressively, the song marks his second hit to achieve that certification level this year. The first came from his feature on Atlanta rap trio Migos' "Bad And Boujee," the 2016 single that topped the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart this past January.

While Lil Uzi Vert isn't the first rapper to go quadruple-platinum more than once this year, he's now part of an elite group in the genre that have reached or surpassed that certification milestone in 2017. Post Malone earned quintuple-platinum status for his Quavo-featuring smash "Congratulations" and quadruple-platinum for "White Iverson," both of which appear on last year's Stoney LP. Future went quadruple-platinum for both his solo cut "Mask Off" and for "Low Life," the latter a 2016 collaboration with R&B superstar The Weeknd.

Having debuted this past March, "XO Tour Llif3" is only the third rap single released in 2017 to reach quadruple-platinum thus far. Stacked with guests like Chance The Rapper and Quavo, DJ Khaled's "I'm The One" marked the first to do so back in August. Taken from his eponymous album, Future's "Mask Off" got there late last month.

Prior to "XO Tour Llif3" attaining this status, the rapper born Symere Woods had already accrued a significant number of RIAA digital single awards. He achieved double-platinum certification for his 2016 breakthrough "Money Longer," a track which enjoyed 22 weeks on the Hot 100 and peaked at No. 54. Follow-up "You Was Right" earned a platinum plaque back in March. Woods has an additional three gold single awards, one for "Ps & Qs" off last year's Vs. The World mixtape and an additional pair for his features on DJ Esco's "Too Much Sauce" and Wiz Khalifa's "Pull Up," respectively.

Though originally released as a standalone single in the spring, "XO Tour Llif3" made it onto his Luv Is Rage 2 project for Atlantic Records this past August. The decision to include Woods' then already huge hit on the album seems to have paid off fairly quickly, with Luv Is Rage 2 receiving a gold album certification from the RIAA mere days prior to the latest one for "XO Tour Llif3." The song has been more or less a fixture of Spotify's Top 10 in the U.S., logging some between 7 and 10 million weekly plays in the past few months. Now in its 29th week on the Hot 100, "XO Tour Llif3" continues to thrive following its No. 7 peak, currently holding the No. 35 spot there.

Apart from "XO Tour Llif3," two additional Luv Is Rage 2 songs are currently charting on the Hot 100. This week, "The Way Life Goes" and "Sauce It Up" take the No. 57 and No. 87 slots, respectively. Both seem likely candidates for RIAA gold, though the former should get there sooner. On Spotify alone, "The Way Life Goes" currently logs around 800,000 daily plays in the U.S.
