Bardem will reportedly play the "good guy", an ambitious businessman who is forced to deal with a corrupt establishment in 1980s New York. Production is due to take place this autumn in Manhattan.

He is also in talks to star opposite Sean Penn in The Gunman, a StudioCanal-financed action film. Pierre Morel (District 13, Taken) is in line to direct.

Oscar winner Bardem is expecting his second child with wife Penelope Cruz later this year.

He will soon be seen in Ridley Scott's The Counselor with Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender and Goran Visnjic.
