Victoria star David Burnett says he's 'baffled' by THOSE Poldark comparisons... after sparking a fan frenzy with skinny dipping scenes
He sparked a fan frenzy after his character enjoyed a cheeky skinny dip in the freezing Isle Of Wight climes.
But Victoria star David Burnett has admitted he is 'baffled' by comparisons to TV heartthrob Ross Poldark, as he teased footman Joseph Wells' budding romance with the Duchess Sophie.
Speaking on Friday's Lorraine, the actor hinted the pair's 'fervent glances' will evolve in the coming weeks, as Sophie tries to escape the grasp of her overbearing Duke husband.
Star: Victoria star David Burnett has admitted he is 'baffled' by comparisons to TV heartthrob Ross Poldark, as he teased footman Joseph's budding romance with the Duchess Sophie
He told Christine Lampard: 'This Poldark thing has me baffled because it certainly didn't feel very sexy and I kept falling over so I had to do it four or five times.
'I'm going to take it, aren't I? I'm going to take an Aidan Turner comparison. I'm not sure I can compete with that glowering Adonis of a man. [The comparisons] are very kind.
'I suppose there are some similarities in that rustic brooding young man thing and I did run naked into the sea, that did happen.'
Dishy: Speaking on Friday's Lorraine, the actor said he was surprised to see fans compare him to the Cornwall captain, following his debut as the footman Joseph Wells
Hunky: Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner) has won an army of fans thanks to a slew of shirtless scenes, during his appearances in the BBC drama
Unbelievable: David also sparked a fan frenzy earlier this series, when Joseph skipped church to enjoy a skinny dip on the Isle Of Wight

Sparks flying: The star also teased that Joseph will grow closer to the Duchess of Monmouth Sophie, as she struggles to cope with her overbearing husband
Fans were sent into a tailspin earlier this series when Joseph skipped church to enjoy a naked dip in the sea, and despite being dismissed for his behaviour, Sophie stepped in to ensure that he was reinstated.
David went onto tell Christine that filming the scenes was a far less glamorous occasion, and staff had re-apply his fake tan five times.
'No one wants that to happen more than zero times, having someone apply fake tan to your pallid posterior in front of the crew. It's an absurd life,' he said.
Tease: He said: 'There have been a lot of fervent glances so far, whether they will turn into anything manifest remains to be seen'
The star also hinted that fans will see Joseph and Sophie grow closer in the coming weeks, as she struggles with her Duke husband's possessive behaviour.
He added: 'It's great fun, it's wonderful to see so many people enjoying it, things are spicing up a little bit now aren't they?
'There have been a lot of fervent glances so far, whether they will turn into anything manifest remains to be seen.'
This series of Victoria (Jenna Coleman) has also seen the titular monarch's marriage to Prince Albert (Tom Hughes) at breaking point, as the couple clash on every issue from their son's schooling, to the charming Foreign Secretary (played by Laurence Fox).
And following the shock arrival of Her Majesty's half-sister Feodora, fans have been theorising about why she has arrived in England, and whether she has an ulterior motive as she drips poisonous words into the couple's ears.
Victoria continues on Sunday 21st April at 9pm on ITV.
