In early January, Travis said he had never planned on becoming a TV star before landing his role on Vikings in 2013.
'I did a class. I never wanted to be an actor, ever. I still don't,' he told GQ Australia.
The Australian-born heartthrob first rose to fame as the blue-eyed model in a famous Calvin Klein billboard campaign.
Occupational hazard? It is possible Travis sustained the injury while on set of The History Channel's Vikings
He was later offered the role of warrior Ragnar Lothbrok in Vikings after a friend helped him film an audition tape in his kitchen.
Travis has remained a part of the cast for four seasons, while also appearing in other television projects.
He currently resides in Los Angeles.
