Jeffrey Dean Morgan is staying in the CBS family.

The “Extant” co-star is joining “The Good Wife” as a series regular for season seven, Variety has confirmed. Details on the role are sketchy, but sources say he will play an experienced and calm investigator named Alex whom Alicia (Julianna Margulies) hires.

“We’ve loved and admired Jeffrey Dean Morgan for years,” “Good Wife” executive producers Robert and Michelle King said in a statement. “And we were thrilled to hear that Julianna did too, so it was a no-brainer to ask him to join our troupe.”

Morgan’s slate has been busy lately. Aside from summer series “Extant,” he also appeared in History’s “Texas Rising” miniseries and played Joe DiMaggio in Lifetime’s “Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe.”

When Variety spoke with Morgan this spring, the “Grey’s Anatomy” alum was still adjusting to returning to network TV.

“This is a little bit different,” he said of working on “Extant.” “The format’s different and the rules are different. It’s surprising. I’m still learning about it all.”
