We had the good fortune of connecting with Ty Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ty, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to change the narrative of what a CEO looked like. Many times when we hear “CEO” we think suit and heels and I wanted to create a brand that shattered that image and built a better one. CEOs are not confined to a desk or society’s idea of the identity of a CEO, but they are pioneers, wives, mothers and single women smashing their goals who refuse to be confined to a box. I wanted to give everyday CEOs like myself the freedom to be confident and comfortable without the pressure to be traditional in their appearance. The Lit CEO is the new work uniform whether they work from home or go to an office. Quality, comfort and flexibility were our top priorities and each piece was made with their lifestyle in mind making it easy to transition from fulfilling orders to the basketball game to a night out with the girls.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
The Lit CEO is a luxury athleisure wear brand and the new work uniform for women all over the globe. We’ve built a brand that provides custom, quality, fashion forward and flexible athleisure wear that not only makes you look good, but it makes you feel good. All of our pieces are custom designed and high waisted to give our customers maximum coverage and compression. The leggings give you an “instant tummy tuck” as one of our customers said. We’re dedicated to stopping the “tug and pull” that many women have experienced with leggings. Having a mommy pouch myself, it was important to create leggings that I felt comfortable wearing without a girdle and wouldn’t roll down throughout the day and we’ve done that and I’m proud of that.

The process has not been easy at all. I originally had this idea in 2019 and completely forgot about it. In 2021 as I sat on the edge of my couch looking out of the window unsure of what God was wanting me to do during that time, I was instructed to go look through the notes section of my phone. I did and the rest was history. I was working overtime at my corporate job, spending money on fabric testing and even flew to another state to plan the entire launch. It took a lot of endurance, patience, research and money to get to where I am today, but I don’t regret the process at all. One thing I’ve learned is how to be firm in what I want. In this industry it’s easy for manufacturers to tell you what you should have and shouldn’t have, but I kept full creative control over everything because I had my ideal customer in mind. I wasn’t willing to sacrifice any part of the Lit CEO experience to save money or time. There were many nights I stayed up until 2 or 3am speaking with manufacturers because of the huge time difference.

My goal is to inspire those who feel like their ideas are too small and meaningless to the world. You’re looking at someone who went through a divorce is 2012, was a single mother for over 8 years and still graduated college twice, worked full time, ran a successful t-shirt company and launched The Lit CEO. There’s nothing you can’t accomplish with the right mindset, hard work, prayer and dedication.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would have to dedicate my shoutout to my husband, Thomas. Before there was a logo, brand colors, customers or anything else he believed in the vision and value of the brand. He has pushed me, prayed for me, encouraged me, wiped my tears, listened to all of my crazy design ideas and supported my dream financially even sacrificing things he wanted to do and accomplish for himself. I’m forever grateful to have him in my corner throughout this process. Doing what you’ve never done is never easy, but it’s easier with the right person in your corner.
