Warsow was built from the Quake2 source code and is a game that blends in many previous eliments from past online first person shooters and other games such as QuakeWorld, Quake2, Quake3(Challenge Pro-Mode Arena) Unreal Tourniment and Jetset Radio(bet you didnt see that coming..). It's a fast paced classic style based deathmatch game with an open range of movement possibilities.And dispite being limited in graphical capabilities do to being built from an old game code they have managed to make the game look quite good IMO and stand out from anything else out there at the moment. Many creative themes are to be found with a lot of cel-shading to give the game a comicbook/cartoon/TRON type of look. Actually, the more you play the game the more it will remind you of TRON. lol







The game is still fairly new, I think beginning in mid 2005. Currently not even finalized(build 0.3). But already the game has a big and massively growing fanbase in other parts of the world(hasnt caught on much in the US yet it seems, but US ppl like NASCAR over rally so thats not a suprise). The game is even being used for pretty big gaming competitions and leagues. It is being predicted by many to be the next big 1v1 game for competitive gaming.
I'm betting before too long it's popularity even in the US will grow great lengths as more and more people find out about it. And now there is work for a Rocket Arena type game mode which is a lot easier for new comers to jump into and learn the ropes.
ATM there is only a half a dozen or so maps, most being smaller DM/duel type maps, two CTF and three larger TDM type maps as well as a few midair dedicated maps. Mid air being a gametype that requires you to nock your oponent into the air before you can do damage on them.

It's only a 62MB sized game which includes everything. It will run like sonic the hedgehog on crack on even the olded peice of crap computers oh and yes, its free.

heh. since it was crap? Talk about a detailed discription of a problem... Sounds more like you either didnt know wtf to do with it or f**ked up and downloaded the wrong or maybe even corrupt file. Mine, the current build, runs flawlessly which is quite amazing considering it's age. Shame we cant say that about Quake4, lol(btw for those of you with Quake4, get Q4MAX). Either way I ask that you avoid future discussions if all you can provide is ignorant banter such as "it's crap" if you wish to be taken seriously.
How long ago did ago was it since you downloaded it? Do you happen to remember what build it was? Or what exactly was the problem you ran into while trying to play it? Did you attempt to figure out what the problem was?
I think you should check it out, you of all ppl on IDW would probably like the game do to it's core gameplay roots.

I might give it a try though...

We are all car people here so maybe this will help you guys understand what this game is about. Think of BF2 as a fully loaded mercedes SLK and warsow is like supercharged Lotus Exige S2.

Weren't there other images posted in this thread from the game? It kind of had a cell-shaded look to its in-game characters and NPCs.

yeah, but those pictures are hosted by the official warsow website and as I stated above it is currently down for maintenance. So basicly bad timing owned my first post. lol

Be kind of cool if we could get enough IDW'ers on time time to have a TDM or something to try out.

Yeah you already said that, on this and other threads.
Just find the foo when you want to check it this cheap thrill.
I tried out race mode the other day and I like it alot. It's basicly a race from one point to the next.. it's harder then it sounds though but it's a great way to discover the games physics and movement possibilities. Only draw is that since this game is so early in it's beta stages that it doesnt come with any race maps. I used some q3 defrag(/race) maps to check it out. I'll look for some good race maps for this game. They wouldnt be too hard to make either if you wanted to keep it basic. Anyway, it's definately something worth checking out if I can get a few IDW wankers up for abit of fun sometime.

Cool, 0.2 will be out by then. I think it is slated to be released Wed. morning. Which meens more maps, more modes, a few tweaks and lord knows wtf.

Well writen WARSOW review on Esreality should give a little insite to the game from someone who if I recall correctly likes the game. lol

Well, I tried it last night, it's fun... But a little too fast paced for me...

Yeah it does take awhile to get used to and a very long time to actually do it(I f'ing SUCK at this game myself) I will say that I dont think you had the propper mindset in going in the game, sitting around behind a wall like you would in a more realistic game does NOT work in warsow. In warsow your movement and speed is half of your ability to not get shot at. Not to say running out in the open at even a billion miles an hour isnt still a bad idea but speed and mommentum takes a HUGE roll in this game.
I probably like it becuase Im the type of person who fell in LOVE with Sonic when it came out in what, 1991? lol I love speed and the thrill of thinking on the fly.
These days it seems as games keep getting shinier and shinier everything keeps getting slower and slower.



So anyone out there going to give this game a wherl?
