Alces alces gigas (Alaska), 30 August 2009

Alces alces gigas, the Alaska moose;
Anchorage Borough, Alaska (30 August 2009).

One last Alaska shot (for now). Here’s an impressive Alaska moose I stumbled across late one night. Generally speaking, you don’t want to be this close to moose. They’re big. They’re fast when they want to be. They have considerable mass. Yeah, in a one-on-one, hoof-to-hand match between a person and a moose, the moose is probably going to win. Like, every time. Fortunately for me, the moose was just as quick to turn from me as I was to turn from it. Neither of us panicked. We just sort of turned from each other and continued onward into the deep Alaskan night.
