Ex–Camel Trophy 1983 Land Rover 110 5-Speed

This 1983 Land Rover 110 is a left-hand-drive example that was upfitted by the Land Rover Special Vehicles team in Solihull and shipped to Brazil to be used by Camel Trophy event leader Andreas Bender as a pre-scout vehicle for the 1984 running of the off-road competition. The truck was returned to the UK and further modified before being shipped back to Brazil and driven by Bender as the lead vehicle in the 1984 Camel Trophy event. It was subsequently utilized by Land Rover for promotional purposes before being sold in 1987 and relocated to Italy, where it remained until the mid-2010s when it was brought to the UK for refurbishment work. The truck is finished in Sandglow with Camel Trophy plaques and decals and is equipped with an air-intake snorkel, a Warn M8274 winch, a galvanized Brownchurch roof rack, and auxiliary lights. On the inside, the front bucket seats and folding second-row bench are upholstered in patterned cloth and brown vinyl and accompanied by inward-facing rear jump seats trimmed in black vinyl. Power is supplied by 2.25-liter 10J diesel inline-four linked with an LT230R five-speed manual transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and a Salisbury 8HA rear axle. Further details include body-color 16″ steel wheels along with dual fuel tanks, sliding side windows, a HAM International radio, and various off-road accessories and tools. Acquired by the seller and imported to the US in 2017, this Land Rover 110 is now offered with a BMIHT certificate and a copy of the book Camel Trophy – The Definitive History featuring the truck as well as import documents and a clean South Carolina title in the seller’s name.

The truck is said to be one of four 110 models built in 1983 for the Camel Trophy team, and its aluminum bodywork left the factory in Solihull finished in Sandglow Yellow. The galvanized Brownchurch roof rack features a rear ladder and houses an aluminum storage box, yellow jerry cans, traction boards, and sand ladders. The Warn M8274 winch is equipped up front along with a roller fairlead and a steel bumper with a brush guard accompanied by fog lights, spotlights, and roof rack–mounted auxiliary lights. Camel Trophy plaques are fitted to the roof and roof rack, while decals appear on the front bumper and doors. A shovel and pickaxe head are affixed to the hood, and the handle for the latter is mounted to the roof above the rear door. Further details include an air intake snorkel, limb risers, and sliding side windows. The truck is said to have undergone refurbishment work in 2016 at Nene Overland in the UK that involved repairing the right-front fender as well as replacing the front radiator panel and lower side sills. The seller notes that paint chips have been filled in on the hood, the side mirrors have been replaced, and later-model turn signal indicators have been installed up front. The paint on the right-rear door is mismatched, and bubbling is visible behind the left-rear door as well as above the right-rear window.

Body-color 16″ steel wheels are wrapped with Dunlop SP Sand Grip steel-belted radial tires, and spares are mounted to the hood and swing-out rear door. Stopping power is provided by a Girling tandem master cylinder paired with front discs and rear drums. The wheel bearings and seals were replaced in January 2024, according to the seller.

The cabin features front bucket seats and a folding second-row bench trimmed in patterned cloth and brown vinyl. A HAM International radio is affixed to the center console, and the secondary fuel tank is accessed by removing the right-front seat. Further details include a dash-mounted quartz clock, a heater, and three-point front seatbelts. Tears are noted in the seat upholstery, and corrosion is visible in the front footwells.

The four-spoke steering wheel fronts a 150-km/h speedometer and auxiliary readouts, while additional gauges are centrally mounted ahead of the shifter. A replacement steel instrument cluster bezel was fitted in January 2024, and the seller notes that the oil pressure and temperature gauges are inoperative. The six-digit odometer shows 57k kilometers (~35k miles), approximately 1k of which were added under current ownership.
