The beautiful Discus fish is also known as Symphysodon Discus, Pompadour Fish, Heckel Disc Fish, Symphysodon Heckel. The Discus are freshwater bone fish belonging to the Cichlidae family, The Pompadour Fish is spread in Brazil, as in Rio Negro. He lives calm waters.

They have a very compressed body at their sides. They have a discoid shape. Ventral fins are long and thin. The anal and dorsal fins are also rounded, but rather large. The caudal fin is delta. Livery is extremely variable but there are always vertical strips or maculatures of various colors white yellow orange red blue blue and green brown and black. Symphysodon fish are among the most common aquariums although they are not easy to maintain because they require very accurate water values (acid and bass gh) and are quite delicate, we will certainly have to be careful with the presence of nitrites and nitrates as they suffer from Polluted waters.

Fishes coexistance :

Flockfish for a group of at least 5 individuals such as Corydoras and cyclid and caracidi.

There is not much dimorphism between males and females, in the latter the genital papilla may be bigger. Its an a oviparous fish, the aquarium reproduction is very difficult or impossible, the temperature must be 30/31° Celsius and the water devoid of nitrites and nitrates. The eggs are laid on the surface of glass or leaves and watched by both male and female to defend them from any predators. After hatching, the avocados are fed with a particular liquid secreted by the parents for a short time.

Feeding and mantenance:

They are omnivores, granules, flakes, artemies, mosquito larvae and insects.
