and that's a shame too, because I love that map, egysp1. Before I knew it was unfinished (forum search is my friend lol), I had literally spent hours in that hell pig chamber looking for a hidden trigger, a hidden passage (I found the secret imp hideout right away, but it goes nowhere). I even turned my brightness way up so I could easily see every nook and cranny.

I have no problem slaying each and every one of those hell pigs. There's a health vial earlier on in the map and I enter into that area with lots of health and ammo and there are plenty of pickups there. (In Cube, the hell pigs don't do much damage, unlike Sauer)

I even managed to do a rocket propelled jump to get up to that upper level sometimes.

I just played that again a few minutes ago, after seeing this thread and getting nostalgic. Great map, what exists of it :-)

I hadn't played cube in some time, though I did build myself a 64 bit client a while back.

You can't beat Cube for the lengthy SP maps. I think I'll go play Spentron's Conundrum map now. That's a fabulous one, but I'd never get through it without Cube's savegame command with all those jumping challenges and stuff.

I never use very much ammo on the pigs. The fist will take them out with hardly any loss of health, leaving great gobs of ammo lying around.

Hell pigs level.....

What had inspired you to leave the unfinished map in cube?

( I mean no offence, i am very curious )

I can see there is a pole down the bottom of the ramp and it looks as if i need to trigger a switch for it to open the way.

Sure their isnt a secret password for this pole needed to be entered into the talk command?

Like open sesame.

Sure people have the possibility of sauerbraten.

Thats every body except for me.
I am just a poor boy.
With a 486 (566) Mhtz.
My beliefs forbid me to pay for anything.
Especially a new computer.

You know these old 486 can really do some amazing things.
Unbelievable.

Why didnt you just make the end there, ( past the pole around the corner, i can see that part )?

Surely there is a password?
Then what about all that prophecy at the start of the level?
What does that mean?
Surely it is a clue or riddle?

O.K if you really reply that it is not going to be finished i will believe you.
And wont ask again.

Drakker, Did you really make this game?
Whoa, pleased to meet you.
Thats so cool.
I bet it was tonns of sleepless fun.
Madness.

Poroc.
Stressed gamer !!!

"With a 486 (566) Mhz."

You might be able to donate that to a famous museum.
I believe your processor is an important piece of ancient greek and intel mythology.

No way man. This things my life and hey, i got a brand new 80 gig hard drive for it.

I am just one of those people reluctant to hand over anything, well, only for a good cause.

Do you know anything about overclocking the cpu?

I have a spare (500) mhtz celeron cpu.

I would like too see it fizz and melt.

Ha Ha Ha :)

Please tell.

Poroc.

I have an old ms-dos 200 MB hard drive.
You heard of one of them?

Multipleposts one minute after eachother are irritating. Please try putting all of your stuff in a single post?

Also, 486s don't run at a clockspeed of 500 or 566MHz. They run at 16 to 133 MHz.

You sure? IIRC the 486 only goes up to 100MHz (that\\\'s the highest I\\\'ve seen.)

486 (566) Mhtz? I can get a 4000MHz (4GHz) at the corner shop! ^^

For a little bit of money you can get a quad-core AMD Phenom 9500+ processor.
If you have linux, you can set Sauerbraten to use all cores... That is almost 40,000MHZ, 40GHz.

I have a 100mb Dos harddrive around somewhere...

Person99_128: luckily we all know that simply multiplying a clockspeed by the ammount of cores is a very reliable way of measuring total clockspeed. Note the sarcasm in my previous sentence. :)

Kira: I, too, thought they went up to 99mhz at first, but decided to check Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_80486 ) which says they apparantly also go up to 133mhz. But since Pentium I's went from 60 to 300mhz, it might be that most PCs with a clockspeed higher than 99mhz had Pentium I's in them instead of 486s.

The 486DX ran at 133mhz. For you youngin's; alot of older (read: badly written) programs that were clockspeed dependent, ran way too fast at this speed, which is why they implemented a "Turbo" button, it basically let you "underclock" the PC at will.

Ah, I remember writing good old Quickbasic stuff and being proud of the beeps coming from my PC speaker. Them were the days.

Well, I'll be damned - you know I was on Macintosh during the 486 days but had to do jobs on 486s/Win 3.1 - I always wondered what that "turbo Button" did - one would of thought it would crank up the speed rather than make it run at a normal speed relative to the program... Until now I never knew that puzzled me as it obviously did!

I'm not sure what cooling you're using, since that would be the most extreme overclocking I've ever seen in my life. Before making silly statements about hardware you're unfamiliar with, try learning about it a little. Each core in an AMD Phenom 9500 Agena (no plus after the 9500) runs at 2.2GHz.

That means that even if the processing speed for a multithreaded app was a simple multiplication (which, as has already been point out, it is not), the maximum would be 8.8GHz, not 40GHz.

Anyway.

Ah, yes! I remember the days of the turbo button. We had a 386 for a while when I was growing up. 100MB hard drive, I think, and that was LARGE in the day.

so many idots =^) he does not have a 486 running at 500+ most likely A I586 intel p2 or p3 cpu

anyone that even considered what he said to be correct must be idiot

the fastest I486 I have seen is a 166

#38: All these numbers

by Poroc on 01/15/2008 13:59

I am a self taught computer fizz.

Must admit, i know more about the pieces rather then the data, the hardware than the software, so this is rather interesting for me.

I presumed 486 was meaning a 486 Mghz and above, too about 900 Mghz.
Cause i havent heard of 566 or even a 586 for that matter.
I thought P1 was 133 Mghz.
Why would you call a 90 - 133 or 166 Mghz a 486?

Thats like calling an old renault car a fuel injected twin turbo sports car.

whatever.

If you started out with a 486 thats cool, i started out with a commodore vic 20.
Had to beg to play the amiga 500 at my friends house.

I never heard of a quad core but doesnt sound like its for a 'playing games' computer.
I would prefer a single core with the same number of Ghz as mentioned, or a master core with a secondary smaller core for running those secondary apps, updates etc.

Poroc.

Think about it...
What if you were a cardesigner and cranked out 12 different models each year for a period of 5 years.

It would be sensible to assign numbers to your models, since using names is rather stupid: "Was the Moosecar built before or after the Kittencab?"..

..although I see a bit of a point in what you're trying to get across. :)

Also, multiple-core PCs are fine for playing games, as long as the games are optimized for the multiple cores. Try playing a game like Supreme commander on a single-core PC: it won't be fun at all.

#41: Prophecy

by Drakker__ on 01/15/2008 19:16

Hmm, this level was really just a way for me to familiarize with Cube script. I sent it to Aard so he could look at some bug I had and I took the occasion to annoy him until he added a sleep command for cubescript.

Since I forgot to mark egysp1 as a beta or a tech demo, when the time came to release the next version fo Cube, Aard included the level by error...

If I had ever completed it, the prophecy would have been cut, the music changing script too because the available music files were changing in cube around that time. I would probably have left the skill level increasing script intact though (HA!).

Thatès about it, I wonder how many people still play Cube... as far as I know no new release is planned for cube, but if one is ever made, I could complete the level.
